Carolin's New Hobby

The lovely summer of 2004 came to an abrupt end when Carolin was diagnosed with cancer. What follows are the random thoughts and experiences of the Camerons as Carolin fights back.

Surgery postponed - AGAIN

The plastic surgeon will not do the reconstruction while I am on chemo. That's a really letdown. But he says if my white count is too low and I get an infection that the transplant could be lost. I can understand that but it doesn't make it any easier. Looks like we are looking towards fall now. Even though 8 weeks of chemo and 6 weeks recovery put us near the beginning of July the doc says they do very little elective surgery in the summer. Too many trauma's in the summer and too few doctors.

Can I be dumb and ask what you are going to have transplanted??? I'm really not up on all the medical advances!

    Hugs,
    Cheryl

Carolyn, I'm so sorry about the surgery being postponed. I know how much you were looking forward to having that done. I'll call next weekend (8th). Love Jan

I'm sorry to hear about the delay as well. If good things come to those who wait -- you'll have FANTASTIC reconstruction in the fall!!

Sorry that your TRAM is postponed - really, surgery is better when it's cold and nasty outside and you're not missing out on any of our (short)Calgary summer. Dr WdH is an expert, an artist with tissue, knows what he's talking about... it would be awful to "lose" the tissue transplant, and that can happen, apparently.
I was there too Thursday, must have just missed you!
    Please keep on blogging!
    Love Joanne L
