Carolin's pain is gone (update 1)
Carolin passed away last night at the hospice while a neighbour was reading to her.
Reflecting on her recent experiences, I'm most impressed by her determination that her condition was not going to stop her from doing what she thought she should do. She shared Singapore and cruising with her daughter despite more conservative advice. She was front and center with her binoculars watching Jess snowboard on Sundays despite failing eyesight and a wheelchair. She refused to complain.
We are aiming for a Catholic Service on Thursday March 8 in the afternoon in Calgary.

Michele and I were with Carolin on Saturday afternoon and she really did appear comfortable & peaceful. Carolin will be remembered not only for her courage & strength, but also for her indomitable sense of humour, even in the face of the monster that is cancer.

Hi Sandy and Jessica,
I am so sad to hear this inevitable news, please accept my sincere sympathy. I remember meeting Carolin as we girls were undergoing treatment for breast cancer and noting her attitude of wanting to be private about her disease. When she did a 180 and started keeping the postings on the blog, I learned from her about the ability to quickly adapt new attitudes as circumstances change. The day she announced that “the cancer was back” and my heart fell like everyone else’s as she lived our greatest fear, I learned from her again as she carried on as though she had actually written the poem “What cancer cannot do”. She seemed to never, never stop living life to the fullest of her ability with humor and indomitable spirit.
As one of a large group that lives with the likelihood of recurrence of breast cancer, I can say that she has been an amazing role model and I will continue to be inspired by her.
Thanks so much for sharing her journey.
Jessica, your Mom was a truly exceptional lady.
Love to you both...xox...Barb

To all the family we extend our sincere thoughts and pray that you will receive comfort in knowing that Carolin will no longer have to suffer. She seemed so peaceful on Thursday when I saw her.You have all been through so much and were all so brave and "up" through it all. Know that you are not alone and never will be. Those around you who cared so much while Carolin was with us will continue to care and we all will be willing to assist you in any way needed.

My sincere sympathy to you and Jessica and Carolin's extended family. Carolin not only did things she thought she should do, she did them because of her love for each of you and because she so enjoyed her time with you. Her model of how to savor each day she was given will be a legacy for all of us whose lives she touched. May her strength continue to hold you up. God's peace and comfort be with you in the days ahead. Jan WE2EBC

Bonjour Sandi,
I am a friend of Carolyn from the gym, and I thought I would share a little story with you. On June 23rd, I went to Carolin’s day at Edgemont Club hoping to tell you in person but I did not see you.
When I lost “mon amie Carolin” in March, I was so sad. I could not shake it off. A friend of mine showed Carolin’s picture with your little Jessica to her son (Matthieu, he is 11 and in my daughter’s class at school). Matthieu started crying and said to his mom, I cannot believe Jessica won’t have her mom. So he said to Lyse my friend, let’s do something… mom, I want to train and run in the Run for the Cure in September. Lyse told him, if you serious, we will double whatever you can raise. He is been very diligent about raising the money and I think he has past $1000. We went camping with them at the beginning of July and I thanked him. He said: I just need to visualize Jessica on that picture and it motivates me greatly.
Take good care of yourself and a big hug to Jessica
P.s. They will be running for Jessica tomorrow:)

This unfortunately comes very little and very late, we went to high school with Carolin and since then had ran into her once and had heard she had a wonderful life and family, and as life since our protected box in high school went on we of course thought less and less of the people that were part of our lives back then, I spent halloween dances with carolin in RQB , where we got ready at my parents home prior and shared many a high school drama and many laughs with her, she was always such a happy girl and never down......i have spent the past few hours reading her blog......wow,is all I can say...we lost my motherinlaw to cancer a few years ago as well. I cannot describe to you what hearing about Carolin and reading this blog has done for me......i have cried but mainly realized that we all need to take a step back and reflect, count our blessings, and be content with our lives....looks like Carolin taught us all a thing or two...heartfelt thoughts to her husband and little girl......24 years later and Carolin has touched my life and taught me a lesson.......
